Here at Advantage, we’ve continued to work with our construction clients to issue structural warranties safely and efficiently during the coronavirus epidemic.
We’ve seen first-hand how swiftly developers have moved to ensure that sites meet social distancing guidelines, and, as reported by trade body Build UK, major contractors are now working on 86% of sites in England and Wales as the return to work on construction and infrastructure sites gathers pace (this figure is up from 82% last week).
As reported by Construction Enquirer: The trade body also reported that productivity is improving on reopened sites. Output has increased to 75% but there are still challenges in London where output remains slightly lower at 68%.
Scotland’s construction sector remains significantly quieter, with only 19% of projects running and output at just 22%.
Contractor members are also beginning to bring workers back from furlough, reporting this week that on average 22% of their workforce are now furloughed, down from 30% four weeks ago.
Build UK’s membership includes most of the industry’s biggest names like Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, Kier, McAlpine, Skanska, Bouygues, Bam, Vinci, Wates, Mace, Willmott Dixon and Morgan Sindall.
Speaking about his personal experience of completing a construction project during the coronavirus outbreak, Sam Rowlands, one of the founders of Romal Capital, said:
“We were about 90 to 95% of the way through the Park Central project (a 14-storey, 129 apartment development which is part of Liverpool’s flagship waterfront regeneration project) when all of the Coronavirus-related disruption began.
“We were working with Advantage Home Construction Insurance on the project, and they were able to attend the site safely and efficiently, adhering to all social distancing guidelines. In a very challenging climate for construction over the past month or so, we were able to sign off on the building, and we were issued with the certificates to allow us to complete.
“It was a good experience at a time when we were in the eye of the storm. I’ve worked with Advantage for a few years now and it was a natural fit to continue to work with them on this project. They are very responsive and they deliver in a timely manner. They turn up when they need to turn up and they get the job done. Even during a pandemic!”
With more construction sites now open, and with productivity increasing, the Advantage team is proud to continue to work with our clients on developments throughout the UK, adhering to all social distancing guidelines to ensure that projects are covered by the appropriate structural warranty.
