Self-builder, Richard Graham, has kick started a programme of redevelopment at a barn that sits on the grounds of his existing property in County Durham.
Upon completion, the self-builder and his wife will relocate to the property, selling their family home and effectively downsizing.
Mr Graham has opted for the Advantage Structural Warranty working closely with the firms Steve Loveridge. Mr Graham said: “In this instance, no bank funding was needed, however, we felt it important to secure a warranty from a reputable company as we understand that will impact future sales. We spent allot of time researching the various warranties available and felt that Advantage was our best option in terms of cost, cover and content.”
He added: “We did look at the professional consultant’s certificate but the terms were up to seven years only. Also if we needed to make a claim in the future, the process appeared to be pretty complex. All in all, we believe we’ve made the right decision by opting for Advantage and have had an excellent experience to date. We look forward to working with Steve and the team at Advantage across the build duration to ensure we are achieving compliance, seeking the advice as and when issues arise.”
Steve Loveridge of Advantage added: “The self-build market is a growing area for us. The self-builder is keen to have that personal service that many of the other structural warranty firms simply can’t offer. We are incredibly accessible and flexible and we are being recognised in the industry for these attributes.”
The three bedroom property in county Durham will be a sympathetic restoration using local craftsmen, materials and techniques to bring the barn back to life.
