Advantage Home Construction Insurance (AHCI) is pleased to today welcome Dave Roughly to the company, who joins the technical team as a Warranty Surveyor.
With a career spanning 40 years and working across a number of settings, including a large chunk of time in the public sector, we sat down with Dave to learn more about his experience and why he chose to join Advantage.
What is your role here at Advantage?
I have joined as a Warranty surveyor in the Tech Team, assisting the Tech Manager with their day-to-day duties including claims, training new surveyors on all aspects of warranties, inspections and plan vetting. To do this, I will be predominantly office based, here in St Helens.
What has your journey to this point looked like?
I’ve been in billing control for 41 years, initially starting as a trainee surveyor back in 1983, working at St Helens Council. I spent 23 years with the Local Authority Billing Control, before moving over to an improved inspector in 2006, working as a senior project manager. I then became a Tech Manager dealing with a varied scope of projects including educational, retail, commercial and specialist Ministry of Defence projects. In 2018, I then moved to another AI where I carried on the same duties I had previously done as a Senior Project Manager. After that, I considered retiring, but still felt that I had a lot to offer with my expertise in the industry.
Why have you chosen to join Advantage?
Advantage is a reputable company that I’ve dealt with in the past at a previous employer and they are recognised as one of the leading providers of structural insurance and warranties. The opportunity to help train young surveyors and to work in the insurance sector of the construction industry was too good of an opportunity to turn down.
What do Advantage offer that is unique over its competitors?
The management team at Advantage consists of 3 former property developers who have firsthand experience of the difficulties and tight deadlines that property developers have to contend with during projects. The client also has the benefit of being assigned a dedicated Relationship Manager as a single point of contact to guide them through the process, with access to a technical support team who can answer any queries regarding the project.
